World of Warcraft - login speculation

By Mark W. Kaelin Editor ·
The Technologia Guild in World of Warcraft is going strong, but we would welcome new players. As GM, I've promoted most of the guild members to a level where they have permission to make invitations.

I was one of the "lucky" players whose accounts were not properly updated as paid for the month, which prevented me from getting in to the game.

Since we have so many IT professionals in these forums, I thought it might be fun to see some speculation on what is happening at Blizzard. Are problems like a failure in the billing system just part of doing business or is there incompetence taking place? Do you think the customer service of this very popular game is adequate or are there obvious areas of improvement? Can we learn anything?

For a reference to what happened:

I hope to be back and playing tonight.

They are not very kind to guest accounts

by WingedMonkey In reply to World of Warcraft - login ...

For the money, I believe they do a better job with customer service then COH/COV. I have had huge issues with COH/COV service that were not resolved for over six months now. I had to buy a second copy COV.

My son was very enthusiastic to jump in and start experimanting with various race/class combinations as I was doing.
I activated the ten day free guest account for my experimental use, as that would cover the time that he was with me for Easter Break, and was letting him build a main on the paid account as it will be several weeks before he can play again.
Youch! Guests accounts appear to be shuffled to the end of the Que and stay there as regular accounts are let in ahead of them. I tried to sign on one night and was given a number of 324. Two hours later, I was at 389. I quit trying and went to bed. That was the worst time, but I regulary had a half hour to hour wait to get on when he was allready playing. I wonder how many people who have tried the free ten days have quit and never made a paid account because they not able to log on often enough to get a feel for the game.

p.s. Yes, I know, really my own fault for spoiling the lad. But in my defense, I never would have gotten Fizzle's claw if my son's 16th level warrior hadn't bailed out my 12th.
