Would the real Max please stand up?

By Oz_Media ·
So who is this masked man who hides behind his computer, answering questions, participating in discussions (even if closed minded)?
He is a high points achiever (if there is such a thing), a self appointed Forum Moderator (agree with him or else)and what else?
Sorry to use such a crappy line "Would the real Maxwell Edison please stand up" I HATE EMINEM!! Too much commercial bs and zero talent, but that's another RANT! So, why don't you share your experiences and opinions toward the great Mr. Edison and his broad minded, professional debating abilities. (Somehow, I think the most posts will be from Mr.Edison himself).

I respect Mr Edison

by TheChas In reply to Would the real Max pleas ...

While Max and I often disagree when it comes to political issues, I truly respect and admire him as an individual.

His opinions are researched and well reasoned.

I have yet to see a political related posting that does not include links to back-up material.

I seldom have any factual basis to refute Max's conclusions.

Max has his high points because his skills as an IT administrator are second to none.

If anything, my points come from persistence, and a desire to help and learn.I do hope to meet Maxwell in person some day.
So long as we keep the discussion away from politics.

Chas

Actually I like Max as well

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Would the real Max pleas ...

He always gives some backup material which is even sometimes what he proportes it to be and sometimes says something different if you actually have the time to read all of what he supplies.

He does submit to the Q&A section in a very big way and from my observations is of a great help to quite a few people so he has his good side.

As far as his political views go I don't agree with him but I will fight to the death to allow him to have his opinion as it is his right and I do actually enjoy some of his postings especially when he attacks me as it makes me think and provide a better answer which isn't what he want's to see or hear but's again thats his right.

But the one thing that I can't understand is how he has so much time to doall that he does at TR and still hold down a full time job but I suspose that he is simply brilliant so I can learn a lot from him even if I do tend to disagree with some of his views but these are mainly of the political variety so theres no big deal there anyway.

Now isn't this going to upset poor old Max that I actually like him.

Read again

by Oz_Media In reply to Actually I like Max as we ...

No I didn't try to discredit Mr. Edison, read it again, then read it again.
I also didn't say that Mr. Edison 'needed a brain' (Very witty Max, I'll write it down).

People seem to read one line from a post, form an opinion (similar to evryone elses if you actualy read them)and rant defensively. This defensive and misunderstood way of thinking causes one country to go to war against another.

People need to spend more time thinking about WHY people say things and WHAT they are saying.

Mr. Edison has been a great help to many people in this site and is an asset to what has got to be one of the top ten tech support sites on the net. I didn't discredit Mr. Edison for his achievements, nor did I say he was dumb. To which his rebuttal is "get a brain?", (again, well said, I can forgive ignorance before stupidity). We are both entitled to our political views as are all of you. Just don't jump on the "Me too" bandwagon, it is a conformist's weakness that only governments benefit from.

Everyone rants about free speech and the right to voice YOUR opinion, so voice it, don't just join the masses. This can be seen at any race track and costs 'the sheep' lots of money, just ask a jockey. Who do you think creates a long shot? Sheep of course.

This forum usually poses decent questions, unlike this post, and I respect almost everyone's opinion when formed individually.

It is interesting to see nothing but negative thought processes so close to the end of the Iraqi takeover(sorry, The Free Iraq campaign). Maybe some Americans do have a valid opinion but are simply scared to voice it due to fear of non-conformity.

Just keep in mind, when the rest of the world doesn't agree with the US, it doesn't make them unpatriotic, backstabbers. It is simply another voice to be heard, just don't forget to listen nect time.

Do you mean this posting to apply to me?

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Read again

I've read all 3 postings again and again and I've even gone to the trouble of printing them all out just to make sure that I didn't overlook something.

I'm sorry but I must be stupid or something as I don't understand most of your posting particuarly the bit about getting a brain as there was no reference to this in my posting in any conceivable way. Sorry but I'm just lost at the entire posting as I don't understand it in relation to what I have posted but then again I must be stupid or it doesn't apply to what I said but I don't know which it is.

Most of the regular TR contributers will agree with me that Max and I don't often agree on anything not related to a technical nature even Max would have to agree on this, but there is no way that I've said anything like what you have posted to my responce. I can only surmise that it was intended for another link.

But if it wasn't please enlighten me as I would really like to understand.

The Real Oz Man is a Little Man

by maxwell edison In reply to Would the real Max pleas ...

There are some messages that just suck me in and demand a reply from me. The following is one such message.

http://www.techrepublic.com/forumdiscuss/thread_detail.jhtml?thread_id=126074&message_id=759324

Or (For those who don’t know how to remove the space that magically appears in pasted URLs.)

http://tinyurl.com/b72i

I guess I got the Oz man a little ruffled under his chicken feathers.

If the man from Oz only had a brain, not only would he have refrained from posting sucha message (the same message could have had a different delivery), but he also should have expected that it would undoubtedly stir up some emotional replies. Sure, you have the right to your opinion – even if it’s different than mine – and you can express that opinion however, whenever, and wherever you please. But I, in turn, should be afforded the same consideration. I’ve conversed with quite a few fine folks with whom I’ve disagreed. And yes, there have been enough jabs thrown around here to deflate a punching bag. But most people have been man enough to take it for what it really was. Too bad you don’t fit into that category, as you seem to be the first one knocked to the canvas by such jabs.

The Little Oz Man - Continued

by maxwell edison In reply to The Real Oz Man is a Litt ...

It seems that the man from Oz is really 3 characters all wrapped into one – the scarecrow without a brain, the cowardly lion, and the tin man without a heart. I can’t recall another message thread started with the specific intention toattack someone. But I’m a big boy. I can take it. So have your fun, try to get your jabs, and give it your best shot. But be advised, I’m confident enough with myself to take whatever you (or anyone) can throw, and it won’t affect me in the least.

As you so eloquently showed in the above referenced message, you really don’t know your *** from your elbow. (Go ahead, Julian. Feel free to post it.) Moreover, if you even had a clue as to who or what I really was, and if you were really interested in knowing more, then you would have known that all you would have to do is send me an email and ask.

But oh well, whatever toots your horn. I hope you get the kind of replies you’re hoping for. (But this will be the last one from me.) And who knows, you just might. You’re not the first one to get bent out of shape because of what I’ve said.

Keep it up, Oz man. You’re showing your true colors – and they ain’t pretty.
