Would you meet with President Bush?

By maxwell edison ·
A recent news story revealed that Jessica Simpson refused to meet with President Bush. I won't go into details, as it doesn't really matter, and you can look them up if you want. I have an opinion about it, but will refrain from sharing it, at least for now.

However, would YOU meet with President Bush if you had the chance?

For argument's sake, let's assume you have fifteen minutes, no more, no less. Let's further assume that it's a totally private meeting with no advisors present, no wife, no secret service, no distractions, just you and him, and you have his undivided attention. If so, what would say? What would you do? How would you act? What would you ask?

Of course, those who like and admire President Bush would undoubtedly say yes. But what about you folks who don't like him, those who openly call him a moron, a liar, incompetent, and so on? Would you talk TO him the same way you talk ABOUT him? Or would you pull a "Jessica Simpson", and snub him as a matter of "principle"? (And assume that your "snub" would make the news and/or make such a statement.)

So there you go. Would you meet with him?

And those who like him, agree with him, etc., please reply as well. My answer will follow at a later time.

Yes, of course.

I would meet with him. And let me also say that I would snub Jessica Simpson.

I'm not sure what I would say to him. I really don't care about his plans for Iraq. Since I am currently unemployed, I'd probably ask if he would give me a job or at least a letter of reference. He's just a normal person. Maybe I would talk about the weather.
I don't know. But I think he has enough stress, I wouldn't try to add to it.

Have to read more into it

by ccthompson In reply to Would you meet with Presi ...

She didnt refuse the president, she refused to do it at a Republican Rally.

I didn't ask about that

Her reasons, as I said, are not the point. The circumstances, as I said, are not the point. I didn't ask for comments on what Jessica Simpson did or why.

I only used that little anecdote as a set-up for a question about what you might do and/or say in a meeting with the president.

(Maxwell, you idiot. You should have known.)

I wouldn't meet him at a rally.

I'd meet him face to face to discuss his proclamations in 2000 in opposition to "state building".

I would meet him.

Anyway...I do not hate or admire him. He is a politician doing his job. And that puts things into perspective and makes me little indifferent; and agree and disagree with his policies.

I would certainly go and meet him, **ONLY** if the White House extended an invitation to me (why would even they do that :)], I do not have a personal desire to go and meet him (or any other politician) of my own accord.

He has enough advisors and people to talk about the world and the country, so I will not be talking about *** World peace **** or ***poverty***.

I will be just polite, exchange the usual plesantries. I wonder what sort of small talk can one do with a President. I am ***very*** bad in small talk. By the way, since the invitation was from the WH, I would ask him why he wanted to see me.

I would like to ask him how it feels to be the President of the ***most*** influential country in the World.

Is it bad to tell him "take care", when the meeting is done ? :-))

Max, you see I would rather meet you than him :-))) to see what makes you tick :-)) Honestly, you seem to be a more interesting person than him.

I am not a US citizen, so I might be biased towards meeting the world's most important man so that I could just go and brag about it :-))

dump AIPAC

by john.a.wills In reply to Would you meet with Presi ...

I would tell him to dump AIPAC, accede to the ICC, try to repeal the amendment which prevents the US using the ICJ, order the Israelis to give the stolen private property back,... But has any US politician the courage to buck AIPAC? Well, he should have.

This, of course, means...

by Cheesel In reply to dump AIPAC

that there is no Israel. To be fair, then everyone else, including the US must give their 'stolen property' back, as well as the Canadians, Australians, and many other folks. While we're at it, since humans are native to Africa only (as far as we know), maybe all six billion of us should just move back there.

Oh, and as far as the ICC, when they do something wrong, who polices THEM? BTW, you can also forget about your Fifth Amendment rights.

various points

by john.a.wills In reply to This, of course, means...

1. I was talking about private property, not sovereignty;
2. Israel will live till the end of time, but whether the Israeli state will is another matter;
3. The ICC is a small light in a dark world, and started as a U.S. idea; we are better with it than without it, but the Israelis do not want it so the U.S. is going along with sabotaging it.

Yes, to tell him to stop being a wuss!

by Cheesel In reply to Would you meet with Presi ...

I consider what is happening on the Rio Grande an assault on the US. Close the $(*%$ borders, George! I voted for him twice because I believed (and still do) that when it comes to security, Republicans are better than Dems. However, I am no longer a member of the Republican party because they ain't conservatives anymore. They are more conservative than the Democrats but not by much....
