Writing to Floppy Causes NT 2 Reboot?

By robert.gulledge1 ·
Some of my users have recently complained that when they attempt to write a file to a 3.5 floppy, their Windows2000 reboots. I have tried different diskettes, checked them for Read/Write, and for viruses. If I boot the desktop into Safe Mode, the user can write to a floppy with no problem.
My users have IBM NetVista Model 6279-BAH desktops running Windows2000 Professional with SP2. Has anyone else had this problem and were you able to fix it?

Writing to Floppy Causes NT 2 Reboot?

I had dell pc's that when you wrote to a floppy from excel they would reboot. Called the manufacturer and pointed this problem out to them, they had no idea- I was the first to report this problem to them. It turned out to be the video card driver. STB-**94 They sent me a new driver to install for the STB video cards and we have not had a problem since.

Glad it worked out for you. Don't think that is the problem here though, since the problem does not duplicate when I boot into SafeMode in Win2000. If it was the video driver, the problem would reoccur even in safe mode. It is looking more and more like an MS Office 97 versus Win2000 Prof OS conflict. Users report that they do not have this problem when using Word 2000.

I would guess that these a msoffice upgrade and not new installs correct? if so here is what you do. completely uninstall msoffice 2000 and reboot. Go to regedit and delete key heykey/local machine/software/microsoft/office and delete the 9.0 folder. Reboot again. Install a clean copy of the msoffice program.
If you didn't upgrade then I would look towards IE beleive it or not. Install ie 5.5 sp2 with high increption or ie6 with all of the patches and updates.
I have seen both to causevery similar problems.

I had the same problem with an NT4.0. I can't remove this problem without a new install of the OS.
