xls to csv

By john.a.wills ·
I have an Excel file whose data I need in a comma-delimited text file. I have tried Save As and got only tab-delimited or various other kinds of nonsense I cannot convert to csv. I am focussing on Access as an intermediary, but, if I link to the file and export, the year in the 4th column comes out with decimals, and, if I try to import, using the same specifications, I get emptiness in the first 3 columns. It is probably very easy, but I am pretty well stuck.

What version of Excel are you using? Excel 2003 does let you save a worksheet as a .csv file.

I am using Excel 2002, which yields a file with csv suffix but no commas within and the SSN expressed as an exponential number.

I have solved the exponentiation and other number problems by marking the columns which might contain numerals as text. I intend to close this question with no points to anyone when TR gives me the correct buttons to click.
