XP Cable Modem Internet Ethernet Conection Help?

By mmeetme ·
Hi all

Due to software problems I have had to re-install my Windows XP SP2 again onto my NEW RIG and am now having problems connecting to the internet through my cable modem via ethernet.

I have an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe Intel 975X chipset motherboard with 2 ethernet outputs on the MOBO and wireless built into the MOBO.

I have a cable modem and last time, all I had to do was once my O/S was installed, I had to just plug in the RJ45 cable into my modem and onto one of the ethernet ports and I was connected, no problems.

Now I cannot get a connection.

Windows firewall has internet explorer (IE7) in its exceptions list but still I cannot connect.

Any ideas guys?

This is driving me insane now.

Re: Xp cable problem

You do not have to wipe off or re-install Windows xp, all you have to do is install the motherboard drivers. Or if you go into the control panel (start > settings > control panel > system > hardware > device manager) look for network adapters and high light (right click) a network and choose "update driver", if asked just put in your driver disk (motherboard drivers)and then make it search from your disk.
I hope this works for you.
