XP Connectivity

By Biggee ·
We have a Windows 2000 Small Business and and NT Server. Our XP machines, two of them, have connectivity issues. One in particular is that the connection drops after about an hour or so, but only with the NT server. The cable, NIC card and switch connections are OK. Is this an XP Operating system isssue, or what?

NT or 2K Domain

by The Young One In reply to XP Connectivity

You can have some quirky things happen when using a mixed domain environment.

Which server is your PDC (Primary Domain Controller)? Is it your NT or your 2K server?

Do you have DHCP running on your network?

Is the machine set use DHCP? Or does the XP machine have a fixed IP address?

If you have DHCP how long have you set the Time To Live for the address leases? If it is one hour, it may be that...if you set it to say, 8 days, then that will be ruled out.

Check your event logs onboth NT Server and XP workstation...

Be worthwhile setting a ping from the server to the workstation to run non stop for a while...(put a -t after the ping command) and run the same command on the workstation to ping the server...when you lose connectivity, check both ends and see if they are still communicating.
