Software
– NLite Current release

– Disc 1
– XP Home SP2 OEM used disc

– Disc 2
– XP Home SP3 Slipstreamed from Disc 1 using NLite
– Has all hotfixes included
– no drivers
– Five Discs made from 1 ISO (ISO made from NLite)

– Disc 3
– XP Home SP3 Slipstreamed from Disc 1
– Includes all hotfixes
– Most Drives included for Dimension 5100

-Disc 4
– XP Home SP2 OEM Brand New Disc

Hardware
– Customer PC
– http://www.Tinyurl.com/Dimension5100
– Tech PC
– Intel Dual Core 2.3ghz
– 1gb ram
– Customer HDD as Primary Master
– Asus MB PXL5 (I think, i’m not at work to confirm)

– Situation 1
– Installed using Disc 2 on customer PC
– after installation and initial/first boot system hangs at windows load screen
– HDD tests reports no problems
– RAM tests show no problems
– Dell System Utility Test shows all systems functioning normarly and no problems (All Inclusive Hardware Test)
– Second installation with a secondary Disc 2 fails with some problem.
– installation on Tech PC using Disc 2 works, no boot problems. Reinstall to Customer PC and boot hangs.

– Situation 2
– Install on customer computer using Disc 1
– Installation does error once during install at the drivers portion.
– Upon reboot installation completes without further incident.
– Loads to windows screen and hangs.
– Installation using Disc 1 on tech pc installs without issues, installing HDD back to customer PC causes a hang at the windows xp screen.

– Situation 3
– Installation with Disc 3 again same as above it installs fine on tech pc, hangs on boot on customer pc
– to note, I made 2 discs with the customers drivers on it same results.

– Final Situation
– Installed using a brand new right out of the package XP Home SP2 OEM disc no issues installing right on the customers computer
– No hangs, no issues, all systems green.

I would like to know why something like this would happen? Any ideas? the only conclusion I can come up with is either

A) Bad Disc 1 consequently bad disc 2 and 3
B) Possibly the Service pack wasn’t working with the hardware (found a forum string talking about xp file corruption after an upgrade? I’m not sure exactly waht the scf command line option does.

Also interesting notes:
1. It loads to safe mode and safe mode with command prompt (didn’t try with networking) there was however no usb support so I couldn’t do anything, the dimension didn’t have a ps/2 port. and the computer power off switch does shutdown windows out of safemode
2. Safe mode with VGA causes the same issue as above, Hangs on boot.
