XP on a Presario Laptop

By cjd ·
I am trying to install XP Pro to a presario 1255 laptop I have formatted the HDD and when I try to load I get an error. CDR101: Not ready reading drive E where E is the CDRom drive letter. I have looked and am unable to find an answer. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Could be a bios setting.

If you're using a cracked version of XP it may not be bootable. In which case, try downloading the floppy disk setup guide from Microsofts website. Else, install another OS and see if you can do an upgrade.

Some Compaq laptops require a special file on the HDD in order to access and do anything. I don't remember what it is called, but it contains a system SN and key.

You may need to restore this file from your Compaq restore CD before you will be ablr to access the CD.

If you don't have the restore disk, you can oder one from Compaq.
