XP Pro networking

By bmorse ·
I need help... I installed 30 XP Pro computers. I noticed that they were quite slow on the network so i checked their IP's. DHCP is giving out the same IP for all 30 systems? The IP is a valid IP in my scope (10.6.122.1 but i cannot figure why it is doing this? If i assign static IP's all is well. I check DHCP on the 2000 server and it registers 10.6.122.18 to one of the 30 systems but does not list any others??? Any ideas??

Get rid of

all the static IP addresses!

Run the network setup wizard and let that do the honours! Create a netsetup floppy and then run that on the machine you have designated as server.

Works every time :-)

I said server, I meant Internet Gateway!

MAC Address...?

by KiwiRick In reply to XP Pro networking

Here's a thought - check the MAC address of the NIC's using IPCONFIG. I saw some new XP machines today and all 6 had a mac address of 00-00-00-00-00-00!
But they wouldn't talk to each other at all, let alone slowly....
Not sure why they are like this. I thought every MAC address is supposed to be a unique number? We gave them a value via the device manager, and it worked....??
