XP Pro sees network drives but cant Ping

I have taken over a small network consisting of 1 NT 4.0 server and 2 NT 4.0 workstations

We are now adding workstations and the new workstation is XP pro. I assigned it an IP and it still could not see the network, after adding netbeui I could mad drives, but I can not ping the ip of any other machine or the server.

The other NT machines can not ping IP’s but they can ping machine names resulting in a response of the proper IP ?

The XP machine can do neither ?
