In my opinion/experience, it’s always better to back up your data, format the drive and install fresh. You avoid MUCH troubles down the line.

This is actually a home station and it is running a lot slower than before. This person had purchased this unit with xp but was talked into ungrading to pro. He does not like it and wants it changed back. My opinion is that he should have never let it be done in the first place but i thought i would help if i could anyways

          Slow System

I would advise scanning it for malware and viruses. Much more likely that the system is infected than out of resources.

I would agree with that. I would run Adware, Spybot S&D and even MS Antispy ware removal tool before reloading XP. There is not much difference between XP and XP pro for a home use.

Actually XP pro should be a bit faster and more stable.

XP Home runs a lot of things that MS in its great wisdom thinks everyone should have on their computer, thus making it a little easier for outsiders to penetrate your system. XP Pro, on the other hand, is slightly more customizeable in terms of configuring and ‘should’ be the more secure platform and faster because it won’t be running a lot of the ‘toys’ that the Home version runs automatically. Of course this is all theoretical and is really dependant on the levels of skill and knowledge that the person doing the installation brings to the project.
