XP SP2 hang during product key

Hi, I have tried to install SP2 in my IBM thinkpad but the screen just hang during product key stage. My system had formatted not long ago and I do not understand why it does not work. I've tried all sorts of method but nothing work. Is there anyone who could share their experience with me? Really appreciate for some response here..

Hard Drive

The most common problem I've seen for an installtion hanging is a bad hard drive.

Dirty or bad install CD

I've also seen the install hang if the CD is damaged or dirty.

Does it mean the HDD need to be replace? I guess to re-install the OS does not help then? Any further suggestions?

You may have to replace the Hard drive. I'd check the CD first. Then try reformatting the hard drive before trying to install again. Also, you might try getting the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows. Run Darik's boot and nuke from the menu and wipe the drive. Then try to reinstall Windows XP.

bad sectors

Hi Mr Wiz, I will give it a try but will the tool fix bad sectors problem? I do have about 300KB of bad sectors.
Did you come across this problem before when running SP2?

It should mark them and let you bypass them.
