    XP System Tools

    Locked

    by netwizard ·

The “System Tools” is missing from my XP. Normally one would go through “Start, Programs, Accessories…”, but it is not there. The tools are available through “help & support”. I tried using the XP cd to install but the “sytem tools” is not there either.

Start by making a folder (name it system tools) in ….
      C:\WINDOWS\System32\START MENU\PROGRAMS\ACCESSORIES

Then add shortcuts to this folder.
      Here are the paths…..

      scandisk – C:\WINDOWS\System32\SCANDSKW.EXE

      disk defragmenter – C:\WINDOWS\System32\DEFRAG.EXE

      disk cleanup – C:\WINDOWS\System32\CLEANMGR.EXE

      system restore – C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\RESTORE\RSTRUI.EXE

Well, that didn’t work. The address for the accessories is missing 2 steps – system32\config\systemprofile\start menu\programs\accessories is the location here (maybe it varies depending on the installation). I created the folder and added the short cuts. I rebooted the pc but no changes were observed. Everything is in place in the file system but it does not show on the accessories menu. Possibly there has to be registry entries to activate the change. As a work-around, I created a new folder on the desktop and added the shortcuts to it. Not overly pretty but it works. Thanks for your help

      Try this:

      Start/Run

then type the following “msinfo32.exe” (without the quotes)

Below is the path try making a shortcut to it

      C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe
