xp windows wont load, nor will boot disk! please help!

By mcicki08 ·
When I start my computer I cant get passed the windows screen. It's tries to load and stps.

I tried booting into safe mode, but it stops again in the same place.

I tried to put my windows cd in to recover the console, but it goes to a black screen has me press any key, and once i do that it goes to the windows startup screen again. NOT the setup screen so that I can reinstall my windows.

I tried to change my boot sequence so that the CD rom would be 1st. This did nothing, I had the same problem. It's as if my cd rom isnt readint the disk at all. I can hear it , but nothing occurs, it's like the disk just stays in place.

I've never had this problem, when I went to bed my computer was finelast night, now it's just gone from bad to worse.

The bootdisk works, I tried it on my friends computer.

I also tried to press F8 and went to last known good configuration , but it did nothing...literally nothing happened.

Is there a way to access the dos prompt from the F2 setup menu?

I am at a loss as to what to do, I 'd appreciate any advice or help!

Thanks!
~Mcicki~

try these things..

If your Bootdisk worked at your friend's house your CD-ROM may be in bad shape. If you have another CD-ROM to put in there to try I suggest trying that first.

There may be something wrong with the boot.ini file. You could take your hard drive out and install it into your friend's as a secondary slave; then create a new boot.ini file and put it in the root of C. I dont suggest this option unless you really know what your doing but it is worth a shot if your running low on options. The boot.ini file should read something like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

The main thing with a boot.ini file is that the "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" part matches your version of Windows. Also, open and backup whatever information is already in your boot.ini file before copying a new one to your system.

I wish I had more time to give you more solutions but I do not. I may write more later.

Try using the UBCD for Recovery ...

Using your friend's computer, download and burn the Ultimate Boot C

http://www.download.com/TreeSize-Free/3000-2248_4-10139400.html

Booting from this disc you can get access to the Recovery Console.

However, if your optical disc refuses to operate I cannot suggest anything else, apart from perhaps you could use your friend's optical drive in your system box ?
