XP WMI gone; no restore points have it

By pVp ·
In attempting to establish ICS between my XP Pro Corporate Ed. box and Slackware box, I discovered that WMI was damaged or went missing somewhere along the line.

The only "official" fix is a System Restore; I have no restore points old enough to do the trick.

A repair installation didn't help either.

Any registry hacks, cab file extractions, etc., that will put WMI back? The only rule: don't destroy HD contents in the process, i.e., total format and reinstall.

Hi,

As the restore isn't possible, Microsoft recomands to perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP.

Already stated that repair installation (reinstallation) did NOT help.

Yeah, found that shortly after posting the question.

Install wouldn't complete. Got a 1732 or 1733 error?

This one is easy to solve..

just delete any files in %SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem\Repository

then reboot the computer,
problem solved )

ps: an incorrect system shutdown is often the cause of this problem

Greetings,

Kris
