yahoo web workspace login problem

By renish ·
I have been granted a workspace that I cannot access. It appears that my login is interpreted as going to the root, rather than to my workspace.

Why waste your time asking us?

by ThumbsUp2 In reply to yahoo web workspace login ...

We have nothing to do with it.

Contact those who have granted you the workspace.

Why, indeed

by renish In reply to Why waste your time askin ...

1. A user cannot access Yahoo's help without being the owner of the site and Yahoo points other questions to this site.

2. The owner doesn't want to spend any more time on the problem and would be a fool to give me his login information. He believes it's a problem with my network settings that neither of us can see.

3. I was hoping somebody else had had a similar problem and would have the information. Apparently not, or just not yet.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, though: I hadn't known my question was beneath consideration.

Try it again, but this time

by IC-IT In reply to Why, indeed

Maybe you could be a bit more specific.
What is the address?
What instructions were you given to access it?
Who is the owner?
Are you getting any type of error/connection message?
Any idea why they thought TR would have a crystal ball and know anything about the workspace on Yahoo?
The more info you can provide the better.

As you should be able to see, the question is not beneath consideration, it is just that nothing was given to consider.
We wont find anything by searching for -- Yahoo workspace belonging to someone that wants to allow renish access. **** we dont even know the purpose.

In order, my replies are:
ftp.skepdic.com.
Login to my space as id'd.
Robert Carroll.
The error message says I'm trying to access a directory I don't own, apparently the root.
Not the owner, but Yahoo, suggested I contact this forum.
The purpose is to contribute to the site on an occasional basis.

Thanks in advance to anybody who can give me some guidance.

Let's see if we have this straight..........

by ThumbsUp2 In reply to Re: Try it again, but thi ...

YOU wish to access an FTP account which you do not own, but were given access to by the owner, and you wish to 'contribute' to it on an occasional bases, and Yahoo, not the site owner, has directed you to TechRepublic (TR) for assistance in getting logged in.

Is that correct?

Sorry, but that boat don't float! Perhaps you've used Yahoo to search for something and the search results returned an article on this web site, which you followed to get here. But, I highly doubt that Yahoo itself has instructions listed that say to check with another web site to learn how to log into their own web site.

TR members WILL NOT help circumvent the login security of another web site. You will have to deal with the owner of the web site. And, if they don't know how to assist you with logging in, you will have to deal with Yahoo itself.

No, you don't, but thanks for playing

". . . Yahoo, not the site owner, has directed you to TechRepublic (TR) for assistance in getting logged in."

Yahoo's generic help links to this site, not some random search on Yahoo using "help" or a similar search parameter. So, yes, it did.

"TR members WILL NOT help circumvent the login security of another web site. You will have to deal with the owner of the web site. And, if they don't know how to assist you with logging in, you will have to deal with Yahoo itself."

The owner successfully used my login setup on two different computers without finding the problem but was able to repeat the behavior in trying to access the root (one level up). I'm not trying to circumvent login security (you really needn't shout, especially when you're wrong and implying without evidence that I'm a crook) and I can't log in to Yahoo's site-specific help because I'm not the owner. You were told that at the outset and I had wrongly expected somebody of your purported superiority to have remembered or to have refreshed his memory.

Clearly I have wasted your time and mine. My apologies to you for the first and a kick to myself for the second. I shall leave you to the weightier matters beyond my understanding, again apologizing most humbly for disturbing your Olympian serenity. As for the good laughs, you're all welcome.

Goodbye and thank you for your efforts.

You just don't seem to 'get it'... do you?

by ThumbsUp2 In reply to No, you don't, but thanks ...

As previously stated numerous times... there is absolutely nothing we can do for you here. If Yahoo has a link to this web site to obtain help for logging into their own 'workspace', the link is wrong.

Contact Yahoo.

This is what I get

by IC-IT In reply to Re: Try it again, but thi ...

This is a READ-ONLY FTP site.
If you want to update your Yahoo! GeoCities web site
use your Yahoo! id and password to login.
Do NOT use "anonymous".

There is a deeper path you need to access. Then you should get the prompt to use your Yahoo credentials.
