You don't have the right to not be offended

By jdclyde ·
Not in the US, nor any country I know of, do you have legal protections from getting your feelings hurt or being offended.

In the US, we have adopted the policy of the "Pursuit of happYness". This does not give you the RIGHT TO HAPPYNESS. It gives you only the right to do what you can to achieve happyness.

People have Freedom of Speech as part of our Constitution. I know other countries belive in this, but not sure if they have it in writing or not.

This Free speech, provided it does not incite violence, is protected, not EVEN when it is unpopular, but ESPECIALLY when it is unpopular as THAT is when it NEEDS protecting.

If you do not like what the speech is about, then you do not have to listen, but you may NOT interfere with them. You may leave, or you may use your free speech to counter.

You do NOT have the right to not get offended by someone elses free speech.

The attacks on everything Religious in America over the last few years has been a violation of this free speech.

The most recent is the attempts to DE-Christmas Christmas. If you do not wish to celebrate Christmas, don't. There have been MANY steps taken to INCLUDE other religious holidays during this time, but they have not seen the same attacks on them. (go figure).

When someone tells you "Merry Christmas", it is a wish of peace and happyness for you and your family. How can you be offended by this?

If you give me a heart felt well wish, based on anything you believe in, I welcome it as the blessing it is intended.

And with the shape the world is in, couldn't we all use some blessing and well wishes right about now?

Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas

by Bob in Calgary In reply to You don't have the right ...

I am in no way religious, As long as the "religious" don't force there beliefs on me, I doesn't matter which god or religion you believe in, That is for each individual to be at peace with. Just think what a wonderful world it would be if all religions accepted each other without judgement.

However having said that

I wish each and everyone of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. And may your god go with you in peace.

Seperation of Church and State

by jdmercha In reply to You don't have the right ...

The real issue is that government funds cannot be used promote religion. It is fine for a postal worker to wish you a Merry Christmas when you drop off your packages, but they cannot use USPS funds to buy a sign that says Merry Christmas.

Nor should they be used to discourage it!

This particular discussion really hit a nerve. I was tired of feeling like the Lone Ranger when I wasn't talking to someone I know from church. All the anti-Christmas crap had been getting me down.

I hope you have a FANTASTIC, Merry Chris5tmas!!
