Check out the Add-ons for Firefox...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to youtubeconverter

Do a search in the Add-ons directory just as you would for Google.

There's 3 or 4 good ones.

Hi : )
If you wanted to download videos from You tube
how would you do it ? To watch them offline...

The add ones are great,to work online.
I am figuring out, which one is helpful to me.

Wish you a great Christmas season : )

Further instructions . . .

You posted "how would you do it ? To watch them offline...

This puzzles me slightly because you are supposed to use them online to download so that you can watch offline.

I'm sending another link for a product I've only yesterday noticed myself:

http://www.versiontracker.com/php/dlpage.php?id=106585&db=win&pid=139823&kind=&lnk=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wideanglesoftware.com%2Fdist%2FQuivicXP.msi

The site is a sister-site to TechRepublic, and can be trusted for download quality. Register with the same email address you used for TR - it'll probably recognise your ID.

Download and install 'QuivicXP' and read the included help file.

On the basis of the Firefox add-ons: they should be accessed AS SOON as the YouTube video starts to stream, don't wait until it's fully buffered because that'll be too late.

The stream initially releases the file location - that is what the capture progs are looking for.

The download will run at much the same speed as the stream would run, except it is going to your HDD rather than buffered to RAM. When the download is finished you'll find it in the path (whatever path you chose) as an oddly named file without an extension.

Give it an extension of '.FLV'.

Your best bet is to download a .FLV compatible player - my weapon of choice is GOMPlayer:

http://www.gomplayer.com/

Any more problems - post back.

<Edited for inevitable festive typo!>

Thanks for your advice : )

Hi :: )
I`ll try with your new advice : )
there seem to be many ways : )
it should also work with
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5709
I installed this online on firefox and couldn`t use it offline. (: (: sorry)
As long as I have a slow system at home
I can only play videos offline.
On other workstations it doesn`t matter.
So I?ll try again.Maybe it`s the missing FLV
player (: friendly regards again (:thanks for your patience and help : )Graziella
