Zip utility with scripting abilities

By hartcomb ·
Can anyone suggest a zip utility that can do the the following: move through a directory, taking file after file and transforming each file name from the format cyymmddxx.dat to cyymmddxx.zip (where yymmdd represents the current date and xx is an incremental number)

I did something similar to this with a combination of Winbatch and EasyZip. EasyZip is a command-line driven zipping utility. Winbatch is a Windows batch-file utility. If your naming convention adhered to DOS standards, you could also use a DOS batch file and pkzip.

This answer was very helpful. I located and downloaded Winbatch, which looks like it might help. The thing I failed to mention was all this needs to be done from the command line, which Winbatch appears to be able to do.

Many thanks for your prompt and thorough reply.
