RedMagic is bringing serious gaming hardware to international buyers, but its latest phone comes with a price tag that puts it closer to premium flagship territory.

RedMagic announced the international launch of its 12 Pro gaming smartphone on Nov. 3, with US pricing starting at $949. The device combines Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor with an 8,400mAh battery, a display supporting up to 185Hz and an upgraded liquid cooling system. Early access begins Nov. 17, followed by general sales Nov. 18.

The global model follows the REDMAGIC 12 Pro+, which debuted in China in October. Buyers will need to weigh its gaming features against a higher US starting price and a relatively short software-support window.

RedMagic pushes gaming hardware further

The RedMagic 12 Pro combines Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor with the company’s RedCore R5 gaming chip and G1 display chip. Its 6.85-inch OLED display has a 2,688 x 1,216 resolution and supports refresh rates of up to 185Hz in compatible games.

The screen also uses an under-display 16MP selfie camera, eliminating the conventional punch-hole or notch. RedMagic claims the combination of a 185Hz refresh rate and an uninterrupted display is an industry first.

Cooling is another major part of the package. The AquaCore Cooling System 3.0 combines dual-loop liquid cooling, an internal fan capable of reaching 25,500 rpm, a vapor chamber and Liquid Metal 4.0. Its updated micro-pump delivers up to 130kPa of output pressure, according to the company.

RGB lighting is also integrated into the cooling system, giving users additional lighting effects alongside the phone’s other customizable illumination zones.

Charging and camera trade-offs

The international model supports up to 80W wired charging and features shoulder triggers with a 520Hz touch-sampling rate.

Battery capacity grows from 7,500mAh on the RedMagic 11 Pro to 8,400mAh, a 12% increase. The phone also retains wireless charging and bypass charging, which allows users to power the device during gaming sessions without relying entirely on the battery.

The rear setup consists of a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization and a 50MP ultrawide camera, alongside a 16MP under-display front camera. Buyers who regularly take selfies or use video calls should compare independent camera samples before deciding whether the uninterrupted screen is worth the trade-off.

REDMAGIC 12 Pro pricing and availability

The pricing increase could be RedMagic’s biggest challenge. The previous RedMagic 11 Pro started at $749 in the US, making the new model $200 more expensive at entry level. At this price, buyers should compare camera quality and software-support commitments with similarly priced flagship phones.

RedMagic’s published support policy promises two major Android version upgrades and three years of security updates for the 11 Pro and newer models, calculated from the initial global launch date. Buyers should distinguish the features in RedMagic OS 12 from the manufacturer’s commitment to future upgrades.

The smartphone comes in three configurations, starting with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Buyers can also choose between 16GB of RAM with 512GB or 1TB of storage.

Early bird vouchers become available Nov. 12 and remain available through Nov. 17. Voucher holders can purchase the phone on Nov. 17, while general sales begin Nov. 18. Eligible early buyers will also receive a complimentary 80W USB-C charger.

What buyers should check before ordering

The RedMagic 12 Pro makes a stronger case for dedicated mobile gamers who value active cooling, shoulder controls and a large battery. Before spending $949 or more, check whether your most-played titles support the advertised refresh rates. A 185Hz display does not guarantee that every game will run at 185 frames per second.

Look for independent tests covering sustained performance, fan noise and battery endurance during longer gaming sessions. Those results will help establish whether the cooling hardware delivers an advantage in the games you actually play, rather than simply producing a higher short benchmark score.

If this will also be your everyday or work phone, weigh camera quality and software support alongside gaming performance. Anyone using it for company accounts should check their employer’s device requirements and consider whether the promised security-support period covers their intended ownership period.

Before ordering, confirm carrier activation support, warranty coverage and return terms for your shipping country. Also review the early-bird conditions: an eligible voucher must be applied at checkout to receive the promotional gifts, and early access does not guarantee stock or faster delivery.
