RedMagic has revealed when its older gaming phones and tablets will receive Android 17, but international users are still waiting for their own release schedule.
The company announced its RedMagic OS 12 rollout roadmap on Oct. 23, with eligible devices in China scheduled to receive the update between December 2026 and April 2027.
According to IT Home, the RedMagic 11 Pro and 11S Pro series will receive the software first, followed by several older phones and gaming tablets. The update introduces new AI features, interface changes, and gaming improvements, although availability outside China remains unconfirmed.
| December 2026 | RedMagic 11 Pro and 11S Pro series |
| January 2027 | RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro |
| March 2027 | RedMagic 10 Pro and 10S Pro series, 11 Air, Gaming Tablet 3 Pro |
| April 2027 | RedMagic 10 Air |
RedMagic also cautioned that updates will arrive in batches, meaning eligible owners might not receive the software as soon as the rollout begins.
AI features and a redesigned gaming experience
RedMagic OS 12 introduces a redesigned interface with a large lock screen clock and additional customization options. Its AI Magic Island feature adds interactive notifications to the status bar, while an upgraded AI assistant brings memory-related capabilities and automated task functions.
The update also introduces easier file transfers between RedMagic devices and Apple products, potentially making it simpler for users to move files between their gaming phones and iPhones.
Gaming remains central to the release. The redesigned Game Space interface adapts its appearance to the game being played, while a new esports training area includes shooting and reaction-time mini-games. RedMagic is also updating its X-Gravity platform to version 3.0, adding support for cloud gaming, console streaming and playing mobile games on larger displays.
Older RedMagic devices face a longer wait
The staggered schedule means owners of older RedMagic hardware will need to wait several months longer than users of the 11 Pro series. The March and April groups could face an extended wait before accessing the new interface, AI tools and gaming features.
That delay matters because gaming phones compete partly on performance, but software support also influences how long a device remains attractive after purchase. A scheduled Android upgrade offers some reassurance to existing owners, but the roadmap alone doesn’t show how long RedMagic will deliver security patches or major Android releases.
Another limitation to consider: RedMagic has not detailed whether every advertised feature will reach every eligible device. Hardware differences could affect which capabilities older phones and tablets can support.

What the update means for RedMagic users
For gamers, the most practical additions could be the improved Game Space interface, training mini-games and expanded options for playing on larger screens. Cross-platform file transfers could also help users who regularly move screenshots, recordings and other files between Android and Apple devices.
Beyond the new features, users should pay attention to how OS 12 affects everyday gaming performance. Changes to system software can influence battery consumption, thermal management, and compatibility with existing games or accessories. RedMagic has not yet provided device-specific performance results for the upcoming updates, so owners may want to review early user feedback before installing.
Users should also prepare for the upgrade by backing up important files, checking available storage, and ensuring their devices have sufficient battery power. Those who rely on specific gaming configurations, controller mappings or third-party applications should verify compatibility once the update becomes available.
However, international customers should not assume that the Chinese rollout dates apply to their phones. RedMagic has yet to publish a confirmed global schedule, despite the expected international launch of its RedMagic 12 Pro on Nov. 3, 2026.
For now, eligible owners should monitor RedMagic’s regional announcements and check their device settings as the rollout approaches. The Chinese roadmap establishes when updates are expected to begin, but it does not guarantee the same timing or feature availability worldwide.
