Fly and fold

Terrafugia’s Transition flying car, which could be scooting through the air in just a few years, is expected to come with retractable wings for owners with garages or tight urban parking spots. The vehicle won’t come out for a few years, but you can try a flight simulator now and put a deposit on a future plane, too.
With the wings folded up, Terrafugia’s Transition vehicle will have the footprint of a large SUV, according to the company.
This one-fifth-scale model of Terrafugia’s Transition was tested in the Wright Brothers Wind Tunnel at MIT. The tests, conducted in April, conformed to the company’s predictions about how the vehicle would react to certain wind conditions.
Terrafugia CEO Carl Dietrich speaks at the AirVenture show with Burt Rutan. Rutan flew Space Ship One, the first staffed commercial space vehicle.
