Wibrain B1 retail box
By Matthew Miller
The Wibrain B1 is a full function Windows XP computer weighing in at just over 1 pound in a PSP-like widescreen form factor. A split QWERTY keyboard, high resolution display, fast processor, and excellent touch panel make this a compelling choice in mobility.
First flap open on the retail box
After opening up the box you will find a cardboard compartment that holds the slip case, Windows XP recovery CD, and Quick Start Guide.
Case, CD, lanyard and Guide
These are the contents of the first small compartment in the retail packaging. The slip case is decent at the device fits well inside it.
Here is the Wibrain B1
The Wibrain B1 is securely placed in cardboard surrounded by foam to protect the device in the packaging.
Closer view of the Wibrain B1
The Wibrain has a PSP-like widescreen form factor with a split QWERTY keyboard and large 4.8 inch display.
Back of the Wibrain B1
A view of the back without the battery installed. The battery actually covers most of the entire back of the device. There are vent openings along the back middle area too.
Bottom box contents
In the bottom compartment you will find the A/C adapter, battery (before installation), and VGA cable.
Lower left functional buttons
You will find several buttons on the lower left of the front. The left two serve as page up and down buttons, then there are four arrow buttons, two buttons on the right for left and right mouse clicks, and volume controls at the bottom.
Right touch pad
On the lower right you will find the extremely handy touchpad that allows you to control mouse/cursor movement on the display. This touchpad worked surprisingly well and was one of the best features of the device.
Scroll functions on the touch pad
If you place your thumb halfway on the touch pad and halfway on the slider dots then you can quickly scroll up and down as well as left and right on the display.
Beautiful 1024 x 600 resolution display
The stunning display is one of the first things I noticed on the device. It is crisp and clear, but at 4.8 inches your eyes may become tired of the small fonts rather quickly.
Top right of the device
The power button and indicator lights appear on the top right of the Wibrain B1.
Top left of the device
Indicator lights also appear along the top left of the device.
Proprietary botton connection
You can connect the included VGA cable to this port.
Left side of the Wibrain B1
On the left side you will find the 3.5mm headphone jack, mic in port, hold slider button, and A/C adapter charging port.
Right side of the Wibrain B1
Their is a single USB 2.0 port that is covered on the lower part of the right side. A WiFi radio switch can be found up towards the top. The stylus silo also runs down the right side with the stylus being pulled out from the bottom.
Extended stylus on the Wibrain B1
The Wibrain’s stylus is stored along the right side and is a telescoping design with nice heft and length when extended.
