ntNews Corps. Rupert Murdoch was on hand to launch The Daily which is a daily national news publication for the iPad that will offer the features of a newspaper. The Daily will be available beginning today as an app from the Apple Apps store and will cost 99 cents weekly or $39.99 yearly. It should be an interesting test case of how many people will be willing to pay for Web content. Larry Dignan explains.

ntToday’s first issue features the upheaval in Egypt. The Daily will be about 100 pages with options to add breaking news.
ntThe Daily will use a carousel for a table of contents that you can literally thumb through to tap on an article that interests you.
ntHere’s what a Daily article will look like on the iPad. You will be able to flip pages through the iPad’s touch screen, just like a newspaper.
ntOne of The Daily’s features will be the use of 360 degree photos so you can move a photo with your finger to see what was off the screen.
ntNews Corp. thinks their sports section will be one of the hottest sections of The Daily. You can configure the section so that it will provide coverage of your favorite teams similar to what the local newspaper does.
ntLinks and advantages of HTML will differentiate The Daily from newspapers.
ntThe Daily will also feature video selections.
ntHere’s the weather. There will also be a narrator for major stories. How about a weatherman?
ntApple’s Eddy Cue, vice president of Internet Services from Apple, is excited, of course.
