Photos: A fantasy nightclub
Image 1 of 3
Start-up company Doppelganger has launched a virtual nightclub called The Lounge. Designed with teens in mind, club-goers choose computer generated characters as online alter egos. They pick hair color, clothes and even posture. In this picture, avatar characters representing members of the British all-girl band the Pussycat Dolls hang out in the nightclub’s VIP room.
Doppleganger, the San Francisco-based company that created The Lounge, went so far as to design a view from the nightclub’s plaza. This will be used to display virtual billboards with ads for real-world products.
Designed for ages 13 through 19, the club allows visitors to chat with friends via AOL’s Instant Messenger. Inside the club, the actions of avatar characters are limited to dancing, walking, listening to music, and holding hands. The characters are prevented from fighting or engaging in sexual acts.
