CNET News.com reporter Daniel Terdiman is hitting the highway for Road Trip 2006, a two-week adventure through the Pacific Northwest. Among the gadgets he’ll tote on the way is this Globalstar GSP-1600 satellite phone, which he’ll use to make calls from remote locations, and hopefully to also connect to the Internet when no Wi-Fi is available.

  • The Magellan Roadmate 3000T is one of three GPS units Daniel is bringing along. He’ll be testing the three to see which advises him most accurately.

  • Daniel will use this new Apple Computer 15-inch MacBook Pro for live video chats from the road, watching DVDs with a remote control and connecting to the Internet wirelessly.

  • Two satellite phones, including this Iridium 9505A, will help keep Daniel connected to his friends, family and co-workers. He’s eager to see which works best.

  • This Garmin GPSMAP 76CX unit is waterproof, which could prove useful when Daniel researches the science of natural hot springs.

  • Daniel will be counting on this Garmin Nuvi 350 car navigator to direct him accurately to each of his many destinations.
