Photos: I found my mothership – Fry’s Electronics

Storefront
rnThe first thing that struck me is how absolutely massive Fry’s is. It is bigger than a Sam’s Club and easily as big as a Super Wal-Mart, Super K-Mart, or Meijer (for those in the Midwest).

Motherboards
rnMy draw dropped when I saw the selections of motherboards. This picture shows only a small section of them. There were easily 50-75 motherboards on display.
Cases
rnThe selection of computer cases was almost as impressive as the motherboards, but not quite. There were a ton of cases on display, but I didn’t see many cool transparent cases or any slimline media center cases.
Fans
rnThe selection of case fans was awesome. I just wish there were some nice transparent cases to show off these sweet little suckers.
LCDs
rnThere was also a nice selection of LCDs – and at pretty good prices. However, I took a picture of them because of the irony of this scene. Fry’s had a selection of large sepia tone photos displayed throughout the store to improve the ambiance of the atmosphere. It just struck me as funny to see this picture of the horse and carriage above a bunch of LCDs. But then again I have an odd sense of humor.
Cafe
rnIn middle of the store – stationed between computer parts and consumer electronics – I also found a little cafe. I thought that was great. I could shop for hours and play with all kinds of gadgets and then get some sustenance and go back and play some more. Luckily, on this day my wife and son were with me so I didn’t get lost in Fry’s forever.
Checkout
rnWhen I finally went throught the checkout to buy a few things I discovered that I’m apparently not the only one that considers Fry’s his mothership. There were a total of 66 checkout stations at this Fry’s. They went all the way down this row and back up the other side.
