Nokia on Thursday announced the N80 Internet Edition, a mobile smart phone that will most likely be a competitor to the Palm Treo. The N80 will be available in mid-September and come in pearl black or patina bronze (shown here). Pricing was not immediately available.
The N80 comes bundled with Yahoo Search and Yahoo Go software. Yahoo Go can be used to record voice instant messages or read e-mails. It can also be used to store photos or send them to Flickr, Yahoo’s photo-sharing site. The N80 has a camera with a 3-megapixel CCD, offering relatively high resolution for a cell phone camera.
Nokia’s Web browser comes with a feature called MiniMap, which allows N80 users searching for a listing to map its location once they find it.
The N80 can be used as both a GSM cell phone and a voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone for Internet calling. The phone is compatible with any VoIP software or service, according to Nokia.
Included on the N80 is a new Nokia application called Download. The feature brings users to a list of new applications available for their device, as well as notices of updates for currently loaded ones.
