1. Urs Hölzle, Google
Advances in networking led us to the cloud revolution. Here are ten people who were instrumental in making cloud computing a reality.
Hu00f6lzle is senior vice president of technical infrastructure at Google. He was the eighth Google employee and played a major role in scaling the infrastructure to handle the demands of the cloud.
2. Werner Vogels, Amazon
Werner Vogels is the CTO and vice president of Amazon.com. Vogels is largely considered the driving force behind the growth of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
3. Chris Kemp, NASA
Chris Kemp is the founder and CEO of Nebula, Inc. and the former CIO at NASA Ames. His work on the Nebula Cloud Computing Pilot is considered one of the pioneer efforts in the development of the modern cloud.
4. Doug Hauger, Microsoft
Doug Hauger is the head of Microsoft’s Windows Azure cloud platform. Azure offers IaaS and PaaS and was released in 2010.
5. Marc Benioff, Salesforce
Marc Benioff and Parker Harris helped found Salesforce in 1999 just as the internet was gaining popularity as a business platform. Salesforce was one of the first SaaS products and one of the first cloud-based solutions.
6. Drew Houston, Dropbox
Drew Houston is the founder and CEO of Dropbox, which he co-founded with Arash Ferdowsi. Dropbox was one of the first widely used cloud backup and storage services.
7. Taylor Rhodes, Rackspace
Taylor Rhodes is the president of Rackspace. Rackspace provides cloud infrastructure hosting to IT departments and is based in Texas.
8. Brett Caine, Citrix
Brett Caine was formerly the head of the Online Services Division at Citrix. His division was behind the GoToMeeting online video meeting service, which is considered one of the top video conferencing services.
9. Phil Libin, Evernote
Phil Libin is the founder and CEO of Evernote. Evernote is regarded as one of the first cloud-based document tools that provided real-time syncing across devices.
10. David Friend, Carbonite
David Friend founded Carbonite with Jeff Flowers in 2005. Carbonite has become one of the most well-known providers of cloud-based online backup for personal data.
