The Pixel 10a is smaller and cheaper, but its price advantage has shrunk. Samsung’s bigger screen and telephoto camera make the choice less straightforward.

Google’s smaller phone used to make the budget decision easier. A $100 price increase has given Samsung’s bigger screen and zoom lens a stronger argument.

Google raised the Pixel 10a’s US starting price from $499 to $599 on Oct. 2, 2026. That puts it about $101 below the Galaxy S26 FE, which offers a 6.7-inch display and dedicated 3x telephoto camera. The Pixel’s appeal is different: a smaller, lighter phone that takes up less room in a pocket or work bag.

The Pixel 10a price increase hasn’t changed either phone’s hardware. It has changed how much buyers save by choosing Google — and how much extra Samsung asks for its larger display and additional camera.

Samsung’s larger display leaves more room for documents and video calls. Google’s phone is shorter, narrower and 10 grams lighter, though Samsung’s is thinner.

The telephoto camera gives Samsung another focal length for distant subjects. Google relies on computational zoom up to 8x; Samsung also advertises digital zoom up to 30x. Those maximum figures don’t tell you which phone produces better photographs.

Battery capacity presents a similar trap. The Pixel’s 5,100mAh battery is larger, but runtime also depends on screen settings, network conditions and workload.

Samsung says a 45W adapter can charge its phone to 69% in about 30 minutes. Google claims up to 50% in about 30 minutes with a compatible 45W-or-higher USB-C PPS adapter. That adapter requirement does not establish 45W charging input. Adapters are sold separately.

Both manufacturers offer lengthy support. Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates; Google promises seven years of OS, security and Pixel Drop updates.

Google included the Pixel 10a in its August Android 17 rollout. For a work deployment, check the installed software and management compatibility: security patch availability varies by manufacturer and device.

How we weighed the trade-offs

We compared manufacturer specifications, support policies and US prices at matching 128GB capacities. Recommendations favor measurable differences — screen size, weight and camera options — rather than assuming more megapixels or a larger battery delivers better results.

This comparison includes no head-to-head performance, photography or battery testing. Charging figures remain manufacturer claims, not equivalent test results.

Samsung makes more sense when screen space and a dedicated telephoto justify the extra spending. The Pixel remains the less expensive, more compact choice; its higher price simply makes that decision less automatic.
