Power Checklist: Building Your Disaster Recovery Plan
Natural and man-made disasters can jeopardize the operations and future of any company. Hurricanes, earthquakes, and terrorist or cyberattacks are just a few examples of potentially crippling threats. As a result, the development of a disaster recovery plan is a must to ensure ongoing business processes in the wake of a crisis situation.
This checklist, written by Scott Matteson for TechRepublic Premium, will help you identify the main elements you should include as you plan for catastrophes, both minor and major.

3. Factor in single site versus multiple sites
Businesses that have a single site can skip this step, but those with multiple sites should consider how to keep remaining sites running if one site is down. Is there any critical data or service tied to any one site? Let’s say you have sites in Chicago and New York, and the Chicago site holds your inventory database system. What happens if the Chicago site is inoperative?
If you do have corresponding servers in multiple sites that share functions, make them as identical as possible: the same hardware, operating system, patch/hotfix level, authentication methods, and capacity. Figure out whether you can run your business entirely from either site if you have the opportunity.
