Linux is a powerful platform, one that enterprise businesses of all kinds have grown to depend on.

Jack Wallen, writing for TechRepublic Premium, looks at some of the best practices admins should be applying to all of their Linux deployments.

    Updates

One of the single most important things you can do, as a Linux admin, is to regularly check for and apply updates. Unlike Windows and macOS, updates come frequently (almost daily). Instead of waiting for the OS to prompt you that an update is available, you should make it part of your daily routine to check for updates. And do them manually (don’t depend on a GUI). For instance, on an Ubuntu Server instance, issue the commands:

    sudo apt-get update

    sudo apt-get upgrade -y
