Management of System Integration Projects: Lessons Learned, Risk Mitigation, Pitfall Avoidance and Key Performance Indexes

This paper is a first step for a dissertation on the methods of governing and managing projects of system integration, avoiding common pitfalls and proposing a new way of considering such projects’ lifecycle. In this paper, the authors propose an overview of common issues in complex IT projects underlining the most critical aspects and proposing simple solutions based on experiences and studies made on big System Integration projects involving international companies. By managing various projects as consultants both by the side of the “System integrator” and both by the side of the Customer, they explored the different realities and experienced the most common problems to deal with, when facing such a complex project.
