This paper explores migrating to an open source cloud computing platform – OpenStack – and comparing it with vRealize – the proprietary virtualisation platform from VMware. Moreover, this paper provides an analysis of and organisation with a medium-sized estate of VMs and physical machines, detailing how migrating from VMware to OpenStack can result in up to 92% cost savings.
