Further to my hardware roundup last week on Gb networking gear and falling prices of DRAM, it appears that the glut was caused by DRAM makers ramping up to meet the anticipated huge demand for DRAM that Vista was supposed to fuel, and which never did materialize.

According to MarketWatch:

Suppliers of DRAM chips “overforecasted Vista demand,” said iSuppli analyst Nam Hyung Kim, referring to Microsoft Corp.’s new PC software operating system…

On the flip side however, PC makers have been able to stock up on bargain-level DRAM. Dell, for instance, posted its best gross margin in six years in the first quarter, thanks to low DRAM prices, analysts said.

As mentioned in my earlier, now is as good a time as any to do a RAM upgrade. Are you influenced by the low prices to make the purchase? Join the discussion.
