According to eWeek, Microsoft will be announcing its plan at the Worldwide Partner Conference in Denver this week about the impending release to manufacture its new Systems Centre Remote Operations Manager 2007 (ROM 2007).
ROM 2007 works in conjunction with Systems Centre Essentials 2007, which is installed at the customer site. According to the report:
Channel partner [or service providers] can then remotely monitor, maintain, control, update as well as to manage clients’ Windows-based PCs and servers over a secure connection.
According to Microsoft’s director of systems center marketing in Redmond, Jeff Campbell:
ROM 2007 allows managed services providers to managed hundreds of clients from a single console, where a technician can respond immediately.
A point to note is that ROM 2007, which is expected to be generally available in October or November of this year, competes squarely with existing platforms for service provider management, such as Silverback Technologies and Level Platforms.
Some comments in my earlier blog post on Windows platform loses ground with developers were vociferous at pointing the finger back at Microsoft for breaking trust with its own partners by coming up with new products that compete with them.
