Sometimes all you need is a quiet hour on your calendar, not another meeting invite. Google has finally caught on.

Google has rolled out a long-awaited update that finally lets users block off dedicated, distraction-free time for Google Tasks directly within Google Calendar.

This is a major win for time management enthusiasts who have long used workarounds, such as scheduling dummy meetings, just to reserve a spot on their calendars for deep work. The new feature treats your tasks with the respect of a full-blown meeting, complete with “busy” status, to help protect your focus.

The core of this update is integrating Google Tasks with the scheduling power of Google Calendar. Now, when you need to focus on a report or a project, you can create a task directly on your calendar, and it will function just like any other reserved slot.

According to Google Workspace Updates, the process is simple: “On your calendar, select an empty slot > click task. From here, you can add the relevant task and description, and customize details like visibility and do-not-disturb settings. Now you can work on a specific task without any disruptions.”

Key features include:

  • Time allocation: Set a specific time block for a particular task.
  • Availability status: Your calendar will show you as “busy” during this time.
  • Protection from interruptions: Users can set the slot to automatically decline conflicting meeting requests and enable “Do Not Disturb” settings for a true focus session.

This gives your to-do list items the dedicated calendar space they deserve, effectively turning simple checklist items into scheduled work sessions.

Better harmony between tasks and time

One of the most practical benefits is the seamless link between your calendar and your to-do list. The time allocated on the calendar is directly linked to the specific task, representing an ideal way to connect scheduling and task management.

The task won’t disappear when the time block ends; rather, “You’ll also see the task on your task list and get reminded until the task is completed,” the Google Workspace Updates blog stated. This dual functionality ensures you are both reminded of when to work on a task and what remains to be done.

Rollout details for all users

This productivity upgrade is not exclusive to large organizations. It is available to “all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.”

The feature began its phased rollout for Rapid Release domains on Nov. 6, 2025. For users on Scheduled Release domains, the gradual rollout will commence on December 1, 2025, with full visibility across all accounts expected by mid-December. Since there are no admin controls, the feature will be available by default once it reaches your account.

This small but powerful change is expected to be a massive boost to the productivity of millions who rely on Google Calendar to manage their day-to-day work.
