I assume you mean backing up "Open files", via a tape backup system, either DAT or DLT. I know for certain that Veritas/Seagate Backup Exec will be able to do that for you, and give a log of all files that were currently open at time of backup. It also will give you the option to only backup changed files, and leave others that have not been accessed or changed since the previous backup.

Yes, it's possible. The exect software is depends of your operating system and backup tasks. For example, 123Backup software for NT/2000 can perform such tasks (http://www.kiesoft.com/123b/manual/ofb.htm), BackupExec in pprevios answer is a good onefor this purpose.

Hi there

I use a W95 machine and and until recently backed up up to 7GB of data each week using MS Backup. This backed up files even if they were open. The only time it would not back up a file was if the file was deleted between the time it was selected for backup and when the backup program tried to access it to back it.

You can easily find out which files have been modified on any particular day by using the Find utility on the Start menu, and clicking the Date tab.

Hope this helps
