reset file and directory permissions

By digitweak ·
Is there a way to reset access/permissions to drive in WinNT Server 4 sp6a? The reason I ask is....while making some permission adjustments to a drive, I locked myself (Admin) out of the drive and I'm not sure or how to regain access.....HELP

Logon as domain administrator, go to my computer, select the folder that you need permission to, right click, go to properties, security and add yourself with the proper permissions (e.g. read only, read and write, full access, etc...)

Good Luck!

Right click on the drive/directories affected, properties, security and 'take ownership'. Then add yourself if it doesn't do it for you...

Login as the administrator. Go into explorer, right-click on the drive, select Properties, and click on the Security tab. Click on the Ownership button and take ownership of the share.

Now you can reassign any rights, privaleges, etc. to whatever you need.

Make sure that Sceduler service is running, if not start it. Than go to command prompt and type:
"at time /interactive "c:\winnt\explorer.exe""
where time is a couple minutes behind the actual time. You will get a copy of explorer running under local system authority which has all right. Than you can go and reset all rights that you need. If you cannot login you can run the same command remotly, just add \\computer before time.
