$ sign use

I have an nt 4 server ,profiles are user profiles are shared as the username and user libraries are shared as username$..sever always prompts me that the share name is already in use when i set up the second share.neither usr files areaccessible if they do not match paths in user manager for domains.Is the $ sign a recognised character or just for hiding folders. NEED SOME INSIGHT

If you use "$" character in name of one share (in last position) the semnification is to hide this share.

The $ sign is just for hidding shares. It does not effect or change the share name, so technically you are attempting to make a share with the same name.... ie... <sharename $> = <sharename>. These are the same share.
