I can not log on and cd drive is inoperable. please help

...but we'll need a lot more information.

such as but not limited to:
What Operating system?
What kind of CD drive (internal, external, make, model)?
What changed since you were last able to log on?
Can you log in as an administrator?
Can you boot to Safe Mode?
What is the exact error and when exactly does it occur?
Processor? Memory? Drives?

The more information and detail that you provide, the greater chance you will have that someone will be able to provide a resolution.

what did you do before you started receiving this error???

If you have done a Windows update and you have this error, then try this..

Load on your XP disk and select "repair", and follow the on screen instructions. Or go to "safe mode", when booting up keep pressing the "F8" a couple of times, then select safe mode. When in there do this:
Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > restore, (this procedure might be different to your system), click on restore and follow the on screen instructions.
