1 WIN98 machine - 2 IP networks (static

By ciarano ·
I have a laptop running win 98. I need to connect to 2 different networks at 2 different times. 1 network assigns an IP address dynamically while the other network expects a static IP address. At the moment I am manually changing my network properties to accomodate both networks which is a pain. Is their any easier solution?

I am not sure, there is a easier solution, considering the configuration of the network, their is not a automatic setup to detect which network you will be using one time or another, and if this was possible it would create far more problems that the manual switching you are doing now.

The easist way I could think of would be to convince the admins to ebale dhcp on their network and set a reservation with the MAC address on your nic.

Ultimetly what you want is to be the only person on the domain to recieve an IP via dhcp.

We have several engineers working here who do the same thing, they're work around is to buy another NIC, not all that expensive. It's easier to swap out a PCMCIA or simply leave them both in if you want to. Hope this helps.
