In theory T1 is 64 kbps 64,000 whilst 10 mbps is 10,000,000. However, Every network designer I know will shoot you for suggesting you put 10 mbps switches on the end of a T1 connection. Mainly because the switch is handling other traffic as well and the higher speed allows it to deal with all traffic at a reasonable rate.

The difference in cost between a 10 mbps and a 100 mbps switch is so minor no one really considers the 10 mbps in a network today.

Until recently my network had a 100 mbps switch with a 6 PCs and a 10 mbps router providing the network with ADSL access. I am moving soon and have packed up the switch and have only three PCs working direct from the 10 mbps router, performance has dropped noticably for all traffic except the Internet (it is still the same). This is where you will notice and pay for the difference.
