10 people office, NT or W2K server

By nanako.hollowell ·
I have a customer requesting some recommendations regarding their new office network.
A small office of 10 staff all running W98 in English and a few other languages.
They want to have a server just to utilize it as a file and printing server. I do not know how much of growth potential they may have in store. Which O/S should I recommend to them, NT or W2K???

For an office where there is the possibility that multiple people will be working on the server to get permissions and the likes on it I would recommend 2K for the reason of the added gui interface. But I also know that with the SP5 or sp6 windows nt is a good system for this. On a side note I woudl recommend free bsd for a file and print server. It is harder to workwith but will run 24/7 and will be bullet proof.

NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6 installed would be plenty for a workgroup of 10 people. And it would easily expand much further. We have 2 NT 4.0 servers that serve approx. 250 people.
