I'd advise you look into the Cisco Certified Design and Network Professional certifications also.

Keep the points, career advice is free.

A lot of the subject matter in Net+ is also covered in the CCNA. I studied for both, plus the A+. I too was laid-off from Lucent, after 6 years there, 20 total in the industry. Good luck to you.

It couldn't hurt to get some Certs. I took advantage of some training dollars available to me after I got laid-off from Lucent. I had 20 years in the telco biz and was ready for a new career. IT seemed like a good fit. Got my MCSA and CCNA training fully paid for by Uncle Sam due to being laid-off from a declining industry. The union also had some money available. I landed an entry-level IT job for a local school district and I love what I do now. I do miss working in Central Offices at times though. That was great work while it lasted. I took A+, Net+, and 3 MCP courses. Knowing all about cabling and telco power didn't hurt either.
