16 bit error

I just installed a Mustek 1200ub usb scanner on my XP AMD 1.1Ghz. The scanner seems to work fine but everytime I start XP now it comes up with a message
“Can’t run 16 bit windows program, insufficient memory to run application, quit one ore more programs”.
I have 256 DDR Ram and no other applications running.
Whats up with that?
