160 gb harddrive partition

have a 160 gb western digital hard drive that will not partition using xp or partition magic. drive shows up under fdisk as 40gb. appreciate any help.

Hi

XP does not support over 120 gig. partitions until AFTER SP1 is installed. I would suggest to FDISK a primary partition using 10% of the drive and setting this partition active. You will be able to install XP and then manage the remainder of the drive, once SP1 has been installed, using the disk manager.

Also make sure that the motherboard BIOS sees the full capacity of the hard drive. You may need to flash the BIOS, if the motherboard manufacturer has a flash to recongnize the full capacity of the drive.

Have tried use the DOS boot disk for partition magic?
This should partition your hard drive.
