16bit application not running under XP

Whenever, i try to open BlackJack (Win Ent. Pack) or WordWeb an error message accurs “config.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and MS Windows application.” previously these app were running under XP. Recently i uninstall a few third party application (not the above two) but can’t remember which one, but definitely not any microsoft product. Recently, installed directx 8.01
