170 Chinese consumers file complaints against HP

After more than 170 consumers filed complaints against HP notebook for product quality, China Hewlett-Packard have still not yet made any comment. The plaintiffs' lawyer said that more and more consumers have authorized him to launch complaints against Hewlett-Packard.

Complaints were delivered to the General Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) on March 5, 2010. It claims that since 2007, quality problems arising from HP notebook, including the graphics card temperature and malfunctioning screens, involving nearly 40 notebook models.

These consumers asked for investigation of widespread quality problems in HP's notebook and called for repurchase or replacement of sold notebooks, compensation related to loss and recall of related notebooks.

Jiang Suhua, a lawyer at Yingke Law Firm in Beijing who represents HP consumers said he hoped AQSIQ would order a recall, and consumers could then negotiate compensation with HP. He also said that currently HP had not yet contacted them.

China Hewlett-Packard's public relations firm said that at present HP does not plan to recall and they are preparing a press statement, but there is no further content provided.
